Jumping the Shark

How can people make peace when they are busy slaughtering the other side's children? This is the predicament that the Palestinians and Israelis find themselves. I'm saddened to learn today of the killing --most likely by mistake-- of an Israeli-trained Palestinian doctor's children. What is this man supposed to do? There are bereaved parents' groups on both sides of this conflict calling for peace; however, given the current war, those seeking peace have been basically paralyzed. Israel has proved its point, although it's not clear what that is. Tzipi Livni and Ehud Barak are maneuvering for the upcoming election over the right-wing fanataic, Bibi Netanyahu; it's sad to see the choice as...vote for this asshole or vote for me because I can bomb people, too, but I might be able to a) make peace or b) annihilate our enemies.

That said, it doesn't help that a senior Iranian official calls for Livni's assassination from the pulpit. We're not talking moderate influences there.

And with North Korea's announcement today of weaponizing its nuclear warheads, President Obama has a helluva lot on his plate.
